About Porto Alegre
Porto Alegre is the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost state of Brazil. It is the fourth largest metropolitan area in the country, with about 4 million inhabitants (according to the CIA-Factbook), most of them descendants of German, Italian, Portuguese and African immigrants. It features a high HDI (0.865), the second amongst Brazilian capitals. Its climate is classified as humid subtropical, with mild to cold winters.
